Special Samia ricini strain obtained by selective crossing of the Samia ricini ZEBRA line. The caterpillars show the ZEBRA features while adults have extended white pigmentation in all the wings and present a pure white abdomen (females in particular).
The putative allele producing WHITE animals behaves as recessive.
Samia ricini, a member of the Saturniidae family, is the perfect species to start with.
It is very easy to rear and breed and produces quality white silk fibers, that can be valuable for homemade spinning.
