Danaus chrysippus, also known as the plain tiger, African queen, or African monarch, is a butterfly widespread in Asia, Australia and Africa that belongs to the family Nymphalidae. The African monarch is a medium size elegant butterfly, famous for its special shape pupae with golden features, ideal for naturalistic fotography and butterfly exhibits.
Danainae primarily consume plants in the genus Asclepias, more commonly called milkweed.
