Saturnia pavonia cocoons for sale, the small emperor moth.
These S. pavonia cocoons are from France and need to be kept cold until next spring. Many breeders advice to let them undergo a period of freezing cold, in order to maximize their emergence in spring. Is possible that a small part of the pupae will skip one year and decide to wait until the next season.
This species is univoltine and emerges in early spring. The moth flies during the day and is very interesting to observe. The male has a wingspan of about 60 mm (2.4 in) with brown and white forewings marked with red and orange fascia and a bold black and orange eyespot. The hindwings are orange with a similar eyespot. The female is larger with a wingspan of about 80 mm (3.1 in), but less brightly colored than the male, being generally grey and white but has all wings marked with eyespots similar to the male.
