The Morpho helenor caterpillars, commonly known as Blue Morpho caterpillars, are among the most fascinating tropical butterfly species available for breeding and educational rearing projects. Famous for the spectacular iridescent blue wings of the adult butterfly, Morpho helenor (often referred to as Morpho peleides by some specialists) is highly appreciated by butterfly enthusiasts, insect breeders, butterfly houses, and educational collections worldwide.
Our Blue Morpho caterpillars are shipped in the early larval stages, usually from the 1st to the 3rd instar, feeding on fresh Wisteria leaves. Shipping caterpillars at these young stages allows them to better adapt to their new environment and significantly improves rearing success. They are considered relatively easy caterpillars to rear, making them suitable both for experienced breeders and beginners interested in tropical butterfly breeding.
The larvae feed on plants from the Leguminosae family and develop steadily under warm and humid conditions. Under proper care, the caterpillars take approximately 2 months to reach the chrysalis (pupal) stage. During growth, the larvae produce a fine silk filament that they use to anchor and move across surfaces. For this reason, it is very important to handle them as little as possible, as excessive touching can disturb or damage this delicate silk structure and stress the caterpillars.
Adult Blue Morpho butterflies are known for their impressive wingspan, slow floating flight, and brilliant metallic blue coloration. Adults feed mainly on overripe fruit, fruit juices, and sugary solutions. In large enclosures or butterfly houses, they can display natural courtship and mating behavior, offering a spectacular display for collectors, breeders, educational exhibits, and live butterfly displays.
