The Madagascar comet moth is a moth native to the rainforests of Madagascar. They can be found in the residual forests south and east from Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital. It’s one of the world’s largest silk moths, reaching 20+cm wingspan and 20-25g cocoon’s weight. Females have larger body and shorter tails compared to the males.
Obtaining eggs is difficult as adults don’t pair autonomously in captivity. These eggs came from a mixture of different fertilized females improve genetic variability. They will hatch in about 20 days. Larve become huge and cosume large amounts of food.
